Rehearsal

I practiced okay in the bathroom mirror mouthed it until my jaw stopped flinching okay okay okay until it sounded like a word I meant

not a lie exactly more like scaffolding you build the shape of fine and climb inside it hope the structure holds

some mornings I believe it the way I believe in parking meters and the green light at Sage and Fourth functional belief not the kind that saves you

but last night in the dark without an audience without the word I was just there breathing and not performing it

and that was closer to okay than anything I’ve rehearsed
